Beef imports remain stable at around 21,000 tons per month
Chile maintains a steady and fluid pace of beef imports. In recent months, according to Odepa data, volumes have hovered around 21,000 tons per month. This volume is being purchased by the main importer in the region at increasing average prices. In June, fresh beef averaged US$/t CIF 6,453, more than US$/t 200 above May and the highest average price since January.
Paraguay and Brazil remain the two main suppliers to the Andean country. Notably, in the last quarter, the volume arriving from Paraguay surpassed that from Brazil, contrary to what had happened in the first quarter of the year.
The average import price from Paraguay in June was US$/t 6,329, above the US$/t 6,009 of the Brazilian product.
It is worth highlighting the sharp decline in beef volumes imported from Uruguay, down 71% in the first half of the year, which is related to the reduced activity of Casa Blanca, a slaughterhouse with historic ties and fluid operations with the Chilean market.
