First-half slaughter showed little change overall, but cow slaughter fell 12%

In the first half of 2025, Argentina slaughtered 6.596 million head of cattle, up 0.5% from the same period in 2024. Cow slaughter dropped sharply, down 12% year-on-year to 1.223 million head. In contrast, steer slaughter rose 13% to nearly 551,000 head, while young steers increased by 1% to 2.754 million, and heifers rose 7% to 1.884 million head.

Females represented 47.2% of the total slaughter, slightly down from 48.1% in the first half of 2024.

The average carcass weight for the period was 230.2 kilos, up 1.3% year-on-year.

According to the ABC exporters' association, its member companies accounted for 33.8% of total slaughter.
