Foot-and-mouth disease cases detected in Turkey, though not officially acknowledged

Turkey’s livestock sector is once again facing the threat of foot-and-mouth disease. In recent days, cases have been detected particularly in provinces with intensive livestock activity such as Konya, Manisa, Van, Sinop, Afyonkarahisar, and Düzce, according to Turkish media reports. Due to the rapid spread of the disease, livestock markets have been closed in many regions, Turkish media informed.

Although no official statement has been issued, sources within the sector indicate that the disruption of vaccination and control programs played a key role in the outbreak’s spread. It is currently reported that various measures have been implemented in approximately 30 provinces to contain foot-and-mouth disease.

The absence of an official statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the extent of the outbreak has heightened concerns among producers.
