First plant approved for beef exports to Vietnam

Vietnam has authorized the first Brazilian meatpacking plant to export beef. On Saturday (June 28), Vietnamese authorities confirmed the approval of JBS’s facility in Mozarlândia (GO), which is now cleared to begin shipments to the Asian country. The Vietnamese market opened in March this year. The country imports around 300,000 tons of beef annually from various origins. Brazilian exporters estimate that Brazil could capture between 30% and 50% of this market in the medium term. Based on the average export price per kilo of beef in recent months, this would represent between R$ 450 million and R$ 590 million, according to Globo Rural.

Brazilian beef exporters believe that, since there is no surplus product in other beef-producing countries, Brazilian plants will be able to gain ground in trade with Vietnam.

Another 34 plants are awaiting approval from Vietnam. Next week, during Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s visit to Brazil for the BRICS summit, the approval of 12 additional plants is expected to be announced.
