Multiple countries lift ban on Brazilian poultry

Seventeen countries have lifted restrictions on the import of Brazilian poultry, including Japan —the third-largest buyer of Brazilian chicken last year— according to Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).

The announcement came after the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) declared the end of the avian flu case at a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. Brazil, the world’s top poultry exporter, also declared itself free of the disease after 28 days without new outbreaks at commercial farms.

“MAPA remains in contact with the health authorities of importing countries, providing all the necessary technical information on the case quickly and transparently,” the Ministry said.

In addition to Japan, the following countries also lifted restrictions: Algeria, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, El Salvador, Iraq, Lesotho, Libya, Morocco, Myanmar, Montenegro, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Vanuatu and Vietnam, the Ministry reported, according to Reuters.
