Pregnancy rate was the second highest of the century

The results of the Pregnancy Workshop organized by INIA Treinta y Tres, released yesterday afternoon, confirmed an excellent outcome for the 2024/25 breeding season.

Out of a total of 316,681 breeding females analyzed, 82.1% were pregnant. Although this figure is two percentage points below the 2024 level, it is still the second highest so far this century, marking two consecutive breeding seasons with pregnancy rates above 80% among the herds included in the INIA Pregnancy Workshop.

Although the sample is extensive —covering more than 7% of the national breeding herd— it is somewhat biased, as it only includes herds that conduct pregnancy diagnosis, which typically achieve results above the national average. Nevertheless, it is an excellent result that supports expectations that calf production this year will once again exceed 3 million.

Assuming a 9–10% loss between pregnancy and weaning and a breeding herd of 4.25 million females, calf production for weaning in 2026 could range between 3.05 and 3.10 million head.

The department with the highest pregnancy rate was Rivera, with 88.4% of the 2,362 females analyzed. Durazno also stood out, with a rate of 86.1% based on 34,293 diagnosed females.
