Beef production down 3% year-over-year

The average carcass weight in May was 232.3 kg, up 1.4% from April and 2.2% from May 2024. Year-to-date, average weight was 230.0 kg, up 1.1% from the same period in 2024.

As a result, beef production for May is estimated at 259,700 tons (bone-in), a modest 0.3% increase from April but a 3.0% decline from May 2024.

From January to May, total beef output is estimated at 1.256 million tons, 0.2% less than the same period last year, according to the ABC export meatpackers association, whose members accounted for 36.5% of total slaughter.
