Three-year high for cattle slaughter in May
Senacsa reported that in May, Paraguayan export slaughterhouses processed 222,068 cattle, 50,745 more than in April and the highest monthly total since May 2022, three years ago. The average carcass weight rose to 247.2 kilos per head, 7.5 kilos more than in April and the highest since October 2024. A total of 55 million kilos of carcass equivalent beef were produced, slightly above the previous three-year peak, as the average carcass weight at that time was below 240 kilos. Bulls accounted for 101,019 head, or 45% of the total.
In the first five months of 2025, total slaughter reached 978,681 head of cattle, nearly 130 thousand more (15%) than in the same period last year.
Total slaughter in May was 9% higher than in 2024. Minerva increased its activity by 3% year-on-year, while Concepción Group reduced it by 1%. Notably, Guaraní slaughterhouse posted a 9% annual increase.
