Legal challenges add more “noise” to US tariffs

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said Sunday that tariffs “are not going away,” despite last week’s court ruling declaring many Trump-era tariffs illegal. The ruling was appealed the same day.

A trader working with the US market told WBR that the “legal uncertainty around tariffs” added “more noise” to an already near-paralyzed export market for beef from the region. “Uncertainty is growing, though there is some optimism regarding the outcome of the legal process,” the source said. He added that there’s “a lot of meat” in cold storage at US ports and in transit, discouraging new purchase commitments.
