Government repeals rule that restricted leather exports from packers
Through Resolution 727/2025, the administration of Javier Milei repealed Resolution 537/1992, which had imposed a 15% export tax on hides (already suspended in recent months) and a formula for calculating the taxable base, which the meat industry had long requested be revoked.
With this measure, the government reversed a series of policies favorable to tanneries — measures that meatpackers had unsuccessfully lobbied to repeal for over 30 years. During the current administration, the government already eliminated export taxes on hides and dissolved the Tanner Control Commission, which had the authority to block shipments on quality grounds.
Meatpackers now face no significant restrictions to export salted or wet blue hides. According to INDEC data, Argentina’s bovine hide exports totaled around US$ 425 million in 2024.
