Argentina suspends poultry imports from Brazil due to avian influenza outbreak
Argentina’s national animal health service, Senasa, has temporarily suspended imports of poultry products and by-products from Brazil, after the country’s Agriculture Ministry (MAPA) confirmed the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in commercial breeder flocks last week.
Senasa also announced reinforced biosecurity and surveillance measures for Argentine poultry farms to minimize risk. According to MAPA, the outbreak occurred about 620 km from the Argentine border and is the first detected in a commercial poultry production system in Brazil since 2006.
