Sheep market remains firm on very limited supply

As is typical at this time of year, slaughter sheep are scarce. Prices are steady at last week’s levels: US$ 4.30 4.35 per kg for lambs and US$ 3.50 3.60 per kg for adult carcasses up to 24 kg.

Sheep slaughter remains at minimal levels. In the week to May 10, 5,933 heads were processed, 9 percent less than the week before and 30 percent below a year earlier. Lambs accounted for 1,992 head, just 34 percent of the total.

The most active plants were Oferan (3,432), Las Piedras (1,867) and Cuareim (288).
