By 30 April, 25,785 tons of Argentine beef had entered the European Union under the Hilton quota—84.33 % of the 29,389 ton allocation, according to European Commission data.
Shortages of steers have pushed up prices and encouraged shippers to load more round cuts as well as rump & loin under the tariff quota, industry sources say.
Despite a sharp uptick in April shipments, it remains uncertain whether the quota can be filled. The Brooklyn Bridge sails on 26 May and is due in Europe on 20 June; another vessel plans to dock on 27 June, but that is viewed as very risky, sources note.
