Poultry meat production was affected by the avian influenza case

The slaughter of 18.44 million more chickens in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year was due to increases in 19 of the 26 states. Compared to the first quarter, there was a 0.4% drop.

Angela Lordão noted that the sector was impacted by an avian influenza case on a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul in mid-May. Brazilian poultry meat exports fell 12.8% compared to the second quarter of 2024 due to trade restrictions imposed by importing markets. It is worth noting that some countries restricted exports only from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, while others extended restrictions to the entire country, as was the case with China.
