Firm sheep market
Although sheep slaughter activity is very limited due to the absence of several plants on the demand side, the market remains very firm with interest across all categories — provided that carcasses weigh less than 24 kilos.
In general, prices align with the consignors’ price list or even carry an extra cent. The reference price for lambs reaches US$ 4.60–4.70, while adults are mostly paid between US$ 3.85 and US$ 3.95.
In August, Frigocerro will resume slaughter for the Israeli market, where it had concentrated activity earlier this year. For now, this plant remains inactive for sheep; since late February, it has only operated with this species for three weeks, between late May and the first two weeks of June.
With San Jacinto plant halting sheep processing sheep slaughter decreased last week. INAC reported that 8,236 sheep were processed in the week ending July 19, 3,270 fewer than the previous week and about 3,000 fewer than in the same week last year. Lambs accounted for 4,051 head, or 49% of the total.
The most active plants for sheep were Las Piedras (3,898), Oferan (2,457), and Bamidal (1,464).
