New requirements for exporting beef to the European Union

The Directorate General of Livestock Services (DGSG) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MGAP) issued a resolution establishing new requirements for authorized slaughterhouses exporting beef, meat products, and by-products to the European Union, in compliance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products.

The European regulation, known as “EUDR,” mandates that as of December 30, 2025, all products entering the European market must be free of deforestation and forest degradation. In this context, the DGSG determined that establishments must incorporate into their segregation procedures the way they will identify, separate, and keep isolated the goods that meet these requirements, based on information provided by the Environmental Added Value to Agricultural Production System (SVAAPAG).

This system, approved by the MGAP in October 2024, is the official tool that centralizes environmental information from the cattle, soybean, and timber production chains, supporting compliance with the EUDR.

According to the resolution, each slaughterhouse must define its segregation system implementation date and communicate it to the Official Veterinary Inspection Service (IVO), which will also be responsible for verifying effective compliance with these procedures.

The procedures must cover all goods under European regulation, be kept up to date, and be available to the IVO assigned to each facility.

With this measure, the MGAP continues advancing the country’s preparation for the new environmental requirements that will apply in major export markets, ensuring traceability and transparency in the origin of agricultural products. Source: MGAP
