Following the sharp increase in beef exports to the European Union last year, shipments have adjusted significantly lower this year, particularly in the frozen beef segment.
In June, Uruguay exported 2,024 tonnes of chilled beef and 602 tonnes of frozen beef to the EU. During the first half of the year, chilled beef exports totalled 12,263 tonnes (-16% year-on-year), while frozen beef exports reached 4,367 tonnes (-62%).
For frozen beef, the sharpest declines were recorded in the two main markets: Italy (-54%) and the Netherlands (-72%).
