Sheep slaughter recorded a slight decline last week, with lower lamb slaughter partially offset by increases in other categories.
INAC reported that 7,660 sheep were processed in the week ending May 23, down 5% from the previous week (402 head). The decline was concentrated in lambs, which fell from 4,126 to 3,054 head. Ewes were the leading category with 3,591 head.
There were two plants with significant sheep activity during the week: San Jacinto (4,163 head) and Las Piedras (1,916).
Sheep prices for slaughter remain at the same levels as the previous week, at US$ 6.05 for lambs and US$ 5.00-5.10 for adult sheep carcasses.
