On two consecutive days (May 19 and 20), China’s customs authority, GACC, approved three Brazilian beef plants and suspended three others.
On May 19, GACC announced the approval of plants with SIF numbers 2051 (Frisa Frigorifico Rio Doce), 2121 (Bon-Mart Frig.) and 4507 (JBS).
The following day, it announced the suspension of plants with SIF numbers 4490 (Vale Grande Ind. y Com.), 177 (Prima Foods) and 51 (JBS). Brazilian portal Pecuaria reported that the suspensions were linked to the presence of medroxyprogesterone acetate residues in shipments, a synthetic hormone used for reproductive control in cattle and prohibited in China.
