Brazil has submitted a list of 33 meat plants seeking export approval to China, including 20 beef facilities, in a fresh push to expand access to the world’s largest beef import market.
The request was formally presented this week during a meeting in Beijing between Brazil’s Agriculture Minister André de Paula and Chinese customs authorities. According to the Brazilian government, all listed plants have already met China’s technical and sanitary requirements and have been entered into the country’s official registration system.
Brazil’s beef industry is watching the process cautiously, given China’s current import quota policy for beef. Industry sources believe new approvals could still be granted this year, potentially through the replacement of plants that already hold export authorization.
The list includes facilities from Minerva, Masterboi, Fortefrigo, Frigomarca, Naturafrig and Frigorífico Silva, among others. One industry executive said gaining access to China could significantly improve plant profitability, Pecuaria said.
