Australian feedlots marketed a record 1.05 million head in the March quarter, up 11% from the previous quarter, underscoring the growing importance of lot feeding in the country’s beef supply chain.
Despite the sharp increase in turn-off, national feedlot utilization remained steady at 92%, highlighting sustained demand for Australian beef and continued pressure on operational capacity.
The ALFA and MLA survey also showed national feedlot capacity increased 1% from the previous quarter to 1.78 million head, confirming ongoing investment and expansion in the sector.
Between January and April, Australia exported 506,000 tons of beef, with 30% classified as grainfed beef, continuing a structural shift from the 21% share recorded a decade ago.
