Although the government decided not to declare an Agricultural Emergency, the MGAP announced a package of support measures to address the water deficit. Among the main actions announced yesterday is the postponement of the January due date for the rural employer contribution to the BPS in eight southern departments, providing immediate financial relief.
An exceptional authorization for grazing along road and rural roadside verges was also granted for producers facing severe forage shortages.
On the credit front, Banco República will roll out a specific credit line for water deficit, alongside tools from República Microfinanzas, while the Instituto Nacional de Colonización is implementing support for settlers, particularly for investments in water infrastructure.
In addition, procedures with the Ministry of Environment for well drilling and registration will be expedited, and technical assistance will be deployed through the Instituto Plan Agropecuario and Procría. The MGAP is also assessing targeted support for the most affected small-scale livestock and horticulture producers.
