Zimmer, a meat plant with more than 50 years in the Rio Grande do Sul meat industry, has filed for judicial recovery with the Regional Business Court of Caxias do Sul, citing debts totaling R$ 75 million, reported Estadão.
According to MSC Advogados, the law firm managing the case, the measure seeks to enable the company’s financial restructuring in response to rising costs, reduced margins, and limited credit access. “The goal is to ensure the continuity of operations and preserve jobs,” the statement said.
The company, which laid off 95 workers last week, currently employs 325 people. Its operations focus on beef processing, with plants in Parobé and Capão do Leão, and about 90% of production destined for the domestic market in Rio Grande do Sul.
Zimmer is also authorized to export to more than 20 countries —including Chile, Paraguay, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt— although exports represent a small share of its overall business.
