Russia and China are working on the mutual recognition of standards for meat products, and the agreement is expected to be finalized during 2026, according to Oksana Kuznetsova, director of the Gorbatov Federal Research Center for Food Systems, at the international conference on Food Quality and Safety (FQFS 2025).
“This year we are working on the recognition of the standard for meat. As usually happens with meat, everything is more complicated, and I think this year, unfortunately, we will not achieve it. However, we have carried out very constructive work,” said Kuznetsova.
Meanwhile, Artem Daushev, assistant to the head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor), confirmed that Russia could export up to 1 million tons of meat in 2025.
From January to September, Russia exported to China 87,900 tons of poultry meat and offal, 24,900 tons of pork, 21,900 tons of pork offal, 13,300 tons of beef, and 3,100 tons of beef offal, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, in January–August this year Russia became the second largest poultry meat exporter to the Chinese market, behind Brazil, with shipments worth US$ 321.7 million, representing growth of 17.8% compared to the same period last year (US$ 272.98 million).
