JBS: Brazil cannot depend only on China

JBS global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni warned that Brazil cannot rely solely on the Chinese market for its animal protein exports. The statement was made at the Agro Summit, organized by Bradesco BBI.

The executive stated that China will remain strategic but emphasized the importance of diversifying destinations, citing Indonesia as a recent example of a market opening with high consumption potential.

Tomazoni recalled that beef consumption in China grew from 4.5 to 9 kg per capita in recent years, although it is still below the international average. With rising incomes, he said, demand is likely to consolidate.

He added that beef is the product most associated with increasing purchasing power, although poultry consumption is also advancing. He highlighted that China, despite being the world’s largest pork producer and a major poultry producer, continues to demand specific cuts that are highly valued in that market.
