Although Australian beef exports remain on an upward trajectory year-on-year, in August shipments abroad contracted by around 15 thousand tons compared to the record set in July.
Beef exports in August totaled 153,570 tons, according to data from Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The decline compared to July’s record is significant, but relative to August 2024 the trend is still positive, with an increase of nearly 14 thousand tons year-on-year.
All major destinations fell in monthly terms except for South Korea, which received more than 21 thousand tons. The decline to the United States was only 2,300 tons, and it clearly remained the main destination with more than 40 thousand tons. China, Taiwan and Japan saw monthly drops of 28%, 30% and 16%, respectively. Exports to China, at 22,323 tons, were the lowest since April.
In the first eight months of 2025, Australia accumulated exports of 988 thousand tons (+16% year-on-year), and in the 12 months to August reached a record 1.48 million tons shipment weight.
Exports to the United States seem to be stabilizing somewhat below 450 thousand tons annually. The quota for 2025 is 449 thousand tons, and by August 287 thousand tons had already been shipped.
