The average value of the Type Steer 2.0 (NT) recorded a slight monthly increase in July, but with notable differences in the variables that make it up, as there was a significant rise in the purchase value of steers and a sharp decline in what INAC defines as Industrial Added Value (VAI), which includes all other costs and, eventually, the industrial margin.
“The value of the type steer showed a slight increase due to the higher value of the export basket, carcasses for the domestic market, as well as offal and by-products,” said INAC. It added that the price of fresh hides remained stable.
The NT stood at US$ 1,725 per head in July, up US$ 10 month-on-month. The purchase price of the animals (steers of beef breeds and their crossbreeds, with 520 kilos live weight and a 54% dressing yield) rose by US$ 75 to US$ 1,454 —the highest since August 2022— while the VAI contracted by US$ 64 to US$ 271, the lowest since that same month. As a share of the total, the VAI dropped to just 15.6%, also the lowest participation since August 2022, almost three years ago.
