Firm market for sheep
The slaughter sheep market remains very firm and in high demand, with supply extremely limited. Lamb prices reach US$ 4.70 per kilo carcass weight, and ewes are approaching US$ 3.85. In August, Frigocerro will begin operations again, producing for the Israeli market as it did at the beginning of the year.
With San Jacinto returning to operations, sheep slaughter rebounded to levels seen two weeks ago. INAC reported that 11,460 sheep were processed in the week ending July 26, up 39% from the previous week (when San Jacinto was inactive) and nearly identical to the volume two weeks earlier. Lambs totaled 6,220, accounting for 54% of the total.
The most active plants were San Jacinto (5,377), Oferan (2,605), and Las Piedras (1,842).
