32-month high for cattle value in the Type Steer index

The Type Steer 2.0 indicator for May recorded a monthly increase of 2.6% (+US$ 44), driven by both the basket of exported products and the domestic market carcass value, according to INAC.

In May, the value generated from the sale of all products from a Type Steer 2.0 (a British breed or crossbred animal weighing 520 kg live with a 54% dressing percentage) after processing was US$ 1,719 per head—accumulating a 14% increase since the upward trend began in September 2024.

Within the indicator, both major components posted gains. The cattle value reached US$ 1,315 per head, up 2%, hitting a 32-month high. Meanwhile, the Industrial Added Value (which includes other costs and gains) stood at US$ 404 per head, rising 4.7% from April (+US$ 18).

Compared to May last year, the average Type Steer value increased 12% (+US$ 188). However, its two main components showed divergent trends: cattle value rose 23% (+US$ 250), while industrial added value declined 13% (-US$ 62).
