Record high for Type Steer value
The value generated from the sale of all products from a Type Steer 2.0 after processing increased 2.3% in March to US$ 1,976, reaching a new all-time high.
According to the INAC indicator, export cuts, offal, and by-products rose in value during the month, while the value of the carcass sold to the domestic market and fresh hides declined.
The price paid by the industry for cattle showed a slight increase of 0.4% (+US$ 7), reaching US$ 1,608 per head, also a record in nominal terms.
The so-called Industrial Value Added (IVA) —the difference between the purchase price of cattle and the Type Steer value— rose 11% (+US$ 37) to US$ 368 per head. As a result, the IVA share increased from 17% in February to 19% in March. However, it remains below the average of the last three years, which has been 75% for cattle value and 25% for IVA.
Compared to March 2025, the overall index increased by US$ 305 per head (+23%), with cattle value rising US$ 338 (+33%), while IVA declined by US$ 33 per head (-8%), highlighting the pressure on processor margins.
