Processors seek more buyers for their beef in inland China

Representatives of the Brazilian Beef Exporters’ Association (Abiec) will visit six Chinese cities this year to showcase Brazilian beef and strengthen ties with direct buyers such as wholesalers, trade associations and local governments.

“This is a broad project to expand deeper into Asia. We will start with China and next year take it to other countries. The idea is to stop talking only with traders and large state-owned companies and start engaging locally,” Abiec president Roberto Perosa said at an event hosted by the Brazilian Association of Rural Marketing and Agribusiness (Abmra).

According to Perosa, these buyers already consume Brazilian beef but purchase it through intermediaries; the goal now is to encourage business directly with Brazil. “Even provincial governments in China can buy directly,” he noted.

In May, Abiec will open a commercial office in China and will then begin city visits—three in the short term and another three toward year-end. Together, the selected regions hold about 500 million inhabitants, underscoring the sales-expansion potential, Globo Rural reported.
