Indonesia approved market access for five Australian meat export establishments, as announced on May 2 by Agriculture Minister Julie Collins. The plants, located in Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania, received clearance effective May 1, 2026. One establishment also obtained approval for sheep and goat meat.
This is the second positive outcome from Indonesian audits in two years. Since November 2024, the total number of approved Australian plants has risen to seven. The approval process involved negotiations between the Australian government, industry, and Indonesian authorities.
Indonesia is a significant market for Australian halal beef. In 2025, beef and veal exports to the country totaled US$ 581 million, making it Australia's third-largest agricultural export destination. Trade value has grown 49% since 2022.
