NWSW cases rise sharply in Mexico, with growing spread in northern states
According to SENASICA, New World Screwworm (NWSW) cases in Mexico continue to increase, reaching 1,139 active cases during the week. This represents an increase of approximately 54% month-on-month. The livestock sector remains the most affected, with 662 active bovine cases, up around 50% from 442 in the previous month.
In the northern region, Tamaulipas has recorded a notable increase, rising from an average of three active cases in February to 29 currently reported, including locations within 200 miles of the US border. The area remains under a sterile fly dispersion program aimed at preventing northward spread and reproduction. While this shift has drawn increased attention to the northern corridor, Expana reported.
