Pig slaughter in the EU rose for the second consecutive year
Pig slaughter in the European Union increased for the second consecutive year in 2025. According to Eurostat data, 227.2 million animals were slaughtered, up 2.3% year-on-year. Despite the increase, activity levels remain below those recorded in previous years.
Spain remained the bloc’s leading producer, accounting for nearly a quarter of total slaughter, with a 4.4% annual increase. Germany ranked second, with stable volumes, while most major producing countries also posted gains, with only a few recording slight declines.
Pork production rose 3.3% year-on-year to 21.8 million tons in 2025. The stronger growth compared to slaughter reflects higher average carcass weights.
