Survey flags fuel pressures across Australia’s red meat supply chain
A survey conducted by the Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC) between 20–26 March highlighted growing concerns around fuel availability and rising costs across Australia’s red meat industry. The study gathered responses from 323 participants across 13 sectors, including cattle and sheep producers, feedlots and processors.
Diesel remains the backbone of operations, with 97% of respondents indicating they rely on it. However, only 30% said they have sufficient fuel supply to cover the next month, pointing to increasing uncertainty around access to a critical input.
Respondents linked the current situation to a combination of limited availability and higher prices, warning of a potential feedback loop where tighter supply fuels further price increases, adding pressure across the supply chain.
