Beef production fell 4.2% in the first quarter of 2026 to 48,255 tons, according to the Ferias y Mataderos bulletin from the National Statistics Institute (INE). Cattle slaughter totaled 180,548 head, down 6.6% year-on-year.
The pork sector showed a different trend. Slaughter increased 0.6% to 1.39 million head, with total production reaching 142,925 tons.
The sheep sector, meanwhile, posted declines in both indicators: 304,883 head slaughtered — 1.3% less than a year earlier — and production of 4,897 tons, down 3.9% over 12 months.
The poultry sector delivered mixed results. The number of birds slaughtered increased 1.8%, reaching production of 184,919 tons. Turkeys, however, were hit by avian influenza outbreaks: production plunged 63.3%, totaling just 1,825 tons.
