Brazil to host World Meat Congress
For the first time, Brazil will host the World Meat Congress, scheduled to take place from October 27 to 30, 2025, in Cuiabá, in the state of Mato Grosso. The event will bring together producers, exporters, researchers, and institutional representatives from over 20 countries involved in the global animal protein chain.
Organized by the International Meat Secretariat (IMS) in partnership with the Mato Grosso Meat Institute (Imac), the congress will highlight Brazil’s progress in sustainability, animal health, traceability, and technological innovation, with special emphasis on its recent certification as free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, granted in May.
The choice of Mato Grosso reflects its strategic role in protein production. With a herd of 32.83 million head, the state is Brazil’s largest beef producer and has a strong presence in poultry and pork industries.
In 2024, Mato Grosso exported more than US$ 2.7 billion in meat to 65 countries, according to the local Secretariat of Economic Development. During the congress, Brazil will showcase several sustainability initiatives, including the “Passaporte Verde” (Green Passport) program led by Imac in collaboration with the state government and the productive sector. The program aims to ensure full traceability of cattle and certify the socio-environmental quality of the beef produced.
In addition to lectures, technical forums, and field visits, the program will address topics such as international markets, emissions and climate change, animal welfare, new product development, nutrition, food safety, and public policy.
Confirmed international speakers include Juan José Grigera Naón (President of IMS), Michael Lee (Harper Adams University), Eric Mittenthal (Meat Institute), and Kent Bacus (NCBA). The 2025 edition will focus on the theme “Sustainability and Technological Innovation,” consolidating the congress as a key platform for global dialogue on the present and future of meat.
