Philippines approved bone-in beef from Brazil
Last Thursday, the Brazilian government announced that exports of bone-in beef to the Philippines, one of the countries with the highest demand in Southeast Asia, have been authorized.
The Philippines is already positioned as the fifth largest importer of Brazilian frozen boneless beef, purchasing 45 thousand tons in the first seven months of the year at an average value of US$/t 4,237.
The Southeast Asian country has a population of 115 million people, with annual meat consumption of 57 kilos per capita, of which almost half (46%) comes from seafood and only 6% from beef.
According to OIG data, the Philippines produces about 190 thousand tons of beef per year and imports around 153 thousand tons.
