Boi gordo prices in Brazil’s main cattle-producing regions declined for a second consecutive week.
Based on Scot Consultoria's quotes, excluding the Funrural tax and with 30-day payment terms, the average price fell by R$ 7.3 during the week to R$ 325.1 per arroba, bringing the cumulative decline over the past two weeks to R$ 12.7.
Throughout June, slaughter cattle prices weakened across all major producing states. For the "China boi", the sharpest monthly declines were recorded in Mato Grosso, Rondônia, and Pará, where prices fell by R$ 10-12. Even so, the "China boi" continues to command a premium over the standard boi gordo, with that premium widening slightly over the past month.
Agrifatto reported that the national average of slaughter bookings increased by one business day during the week to eight days, reinforcing a scenario of comfortable forward supply that is adding downward pressure to cattle prices.
According to Agrifatto, the beef market continues to face weak demand, weighed down by cold weather and consumers' reduced purchasing power. In the wholesale market, distribution remains slow, with high inventories, product returns, and increased domestic beef availability following the exhaustion of China's import quota. Initial negotiations for early July supply point to lower prices for most products, reflecting a market with more abundant supply and still-limited consumption.
