Chinese customs blocked the entry of 350 tonnes of beef in May, with nearly half of that volume originating from Mongolia.
Rejections from Mongolia totaled 173.8 tonnes due to the failure to provide required certificates or qualified certification documents, with Hohhot being the main port of entry.
Among the major suppliers, the United States accumulated 85.3 tonnes of rejected product and Brazil 62.2 tonnes. In both cases, the main reason was megestrol acetate failing to meet Chinese food safety standards, with most cases concentrated at the port of Tianjin.
Argentina registered 28.1 tonnes of rejected beef, almost entirely due to inconsistent cargo certificates, with Shanghai being the main port of entry. Australia recorded marginal volumes linked to storage temperature issues, while Chile faced rejections because of unqualified labeling. New Zealand had a single, very small case also related to documentation inconsistencies. No rejections of Uruguayan beef were recorded.
