JBS announced the closure of two facilities in the United States as part of a plan to modernize and reorganize its operations in the country. The affected sites are a beef processing plant in Souderton, Pennsylvania, and a value-added products facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Souderton plant employed about 1,700 people and had the capacity to process approximately 2,000 cattle per day. The company noted that it is one of the smallest facilities in its US network, where JBS processes around 28,500 head per day. The company had already announced the closure of another plant in California in late 2025, a trend that has also affected competitors such as Tyson Foods and Cargill, which have recently shuttered some facilities.
JBS USA CEO Wesley Batista Filho described the decision as difficult because of its impact on employees and local communities. The company said it will offer support to affected workers, including relocation opportunities within its US operations and assistance during the transition process.
According to JBS, the closures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in the US market. Over the past 12 months, the company has invested in new facilities and expansion projects in Texas, Georgia, and Iowa, focusing on increasing prepared foods and value-added production capacity.
JBS said production from the facilities being closed will be redistributed among other plants in its network, ensuring continuity of supply to customers. The company emphasized that it is seeking to maintain more efficient and competitive operations while continuing to expand its investments in the United States.
