The Chilean market continues to show activity, although operators agree that business is moving more slowly than in previous months. A Paraguayan processor indicated that current prices for the traditional 19-cut set are around US$/t 7,800 CFR from Paraguay, a level that some buyers continue to accept. Another Paraguayan exporter highlighted that Chilean demand remains surprisingly firm.
“I have a lot of demand from Chile. I don’t know if Brazil has started offering higher prices,” he commented.
The source added that last week he concluded retail business at around US$/t 8,300 CFR for a 20-cut set.
On the import side, a Chilean trader described a market that remains slow but still shows some commercial activity. “The market is slow, but some business is getting done,” he summarized. According to his indications, Brazilian 20-cut sets are trading at around US$/t 7,000 CFR, while Paraguayan product is quoted near US$/t 7,700 CFR.
