Poland has confirmed its first outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in domestic pigs in 2026. The case was detected on a farm with 21,390 pigs located in the village of Jarosławsko, in the West Pomeranian Province.
The diagnosis was confirmed on May 18 by the National Veterinary Institute in Puławy. The farm is located within a restricted area already subject to disease control measures due to the presence of ASF in wild boar populations.
Veterinary authorities immediately implemented eradication measures, including the culling and disposal of all pigs on the farm, cleaning and disinfection of the premises, an epidemiological investigation, and the establishment of protection and surveillance zones within a 10-kilometer radius of the outbreak.
The case marks Poland’s first ASF outbreak in domestic pigs in 2026 and underscores the ongoing animal health challenges facing one of Europe’s largest pork-producing countries.
