Amid China’s announcement of safeguard measures, a meeting is scheduled this week in São Paulo between the government and the Associação Brasileira de Indústrias Exportadoras de Carne (Abiec) to assess how the quotas will be implemented, sector sources told Globo Rural.
China’s government is expected to publish a decree with instructions on how quotas will be qualified, which is generating concern among industry players about access for small and medium-sized exporters, given the risk of concentration among large companies.
According to sources, the Brazilian government is evaluating possible courses of action and discussing a request for an exemption for cargo already in transit.
