Uruguay’s Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) received an audit last week from China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) aimed at authorizing the entry of new bovine-origin products. The director of Animal Industry, Dr. Diego Domínguez, said that the initial feedback indicates a “positive assessment.”
“Last week we hosted the audit from the General Administration of Customs of China, which is that country’s competent authority for meat and meat products,” Domínguez explained. The technical mission arrived in Uruguay on Sunday, November 2, and worked until Saturday, November 8, as part of the approval process for new edible and non-edible bovine products and by-products for export.
The products under review are bovine bile and gallstones, as well as the formalization of trade in bovine serum —a category in which Uruguay is already a well-established supplier. “Our country has been exporting bovine serum to China for several years, and as it has become one of the main suppliers, the goal is to sign a specific protocol for that product, along with bile and gallstones,” the official stated.
