The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, held a meeting with the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, André de Paula, and the European Union’s Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi, via videoconference. During the meeting, the commissioner officially announced that the European bloc recognized Brazil as free of avian influenza, a decision that allows the resumption of chicken meat exports to EU member states.
Fávaro recalled that in July he had already met with Várhelyi to address the suspension of restrictions imposed after the confirmation of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on a Brazilian commercial poultry farm in May. “It has been approximately 60 days since we met to address the European Union’s recognition of Brazil’s avian influenza-free status. It is important to note that, in April 2024, an audit by the EU’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety concluded that Brazil’s health system is solid and transparent,” he stressed.
