Indonesia authorized 17 new Brazilian slaughter plants to export beef to the country, raising the total number of approved facilities from 21 to 38, an 80% increase. The decision followed inspections carried out by Indonesian sanitary authorities in Brazil in August, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The government attributed the expansion to the growing demand for animal protein in the Asian country, which has more than 270 million inhabitants. In August, Indonesia had already authorized the import of bone-in beef, offal, and processed meat products from Brazil, a measure expected to expand and diversify Brazilian shipments to the local market.
