China to audit plants not yet approved for beef stomachs

China’s General Administration of Customs has agreed to conduct virtual audits of Uruguayan plants that are still not authorized to export beef stomachs to that country, reported the Monitor Ganadero portal.

The audits will begin on August 19 and will last for one week. There are still seven plants without approval for this product.

Direct exports of beef stomachs to China began to grow in the second quarter of 2024, after their authorization at the end of the previous year. As WBR previously reported, plant approvals would be granted gradually, which has allowed for a steady increase in shipped volumes, reaching a peak of 1,051 tons in April of this year.

So far, 10 plants have exported beef stomachs directly to China. The average export value to date is over US$ 6,200 per ton FOB, significantly higher than what any other destination pays.
