Somicar resumes sheep slaughter

The Somicar plant (Frigo Salto) in Salto, which is under creditor protection, plans to resume sheep slaughter with 70 workers (out of 300 total) and under court supervision. According to Salto deputy Horacio De Brum, initially only one weekly slaughter is planned.

Foica president Martín Cardozo told WBR that the plant intends to operate with one or two weekly custom slaughters for a client to generate cash ahead of the creditors’ meeting scheduled for early September. “A similar situation is occurring with operations at Casa Blanca and Bamidal,” the union leader explained.

Bamidal, in fact, resumed sheep slaughtering this month, processing about 4,500 animals so far in June.
