Sheep slaughter increased
The market for slaughter sheep is firm, with prices on the rise once again. As is typical for this time of year, supply is very limited, while more plants are showing interest in working with the species. Lambs are being paid around US$ 4.45 per kilo carcass weight, and mutton at US$ 3.70–3.80.
Sheep slaughter rose to 12,836 head in the week ending June 21, according to INAC—nearly double the previous week’s figure. It’s worth noting that Bamidal resumed operations and was again included in the slaughter reports. Of the total, 7,134 were lambs, making up 56% of the week’s total.
The most active plants were San Jacinto (7,038), Bamidal (2,962), and Las Piedras (1,601).
